Oh hello there!
What should I tell you about me? I'm a graduate student living in Managua, Nicaragua and I love traveling. But more than that I love figuring out how places work and meeting new people and wandering around. So this is my blog. I'll write a little about my adventures and offer recommendations or tips. It'll just be things I saw or ate or places I stayed that I would recommend. A lot of this traveling I'll be doing solo, but some of with friends. So expect to hear some about that.
Since I'm just a grad student, this is going to have to be a budget travel blog--expect lots of hostels and and cutting corners. One thing I will splurge on though is food--so those recommendations should be pretty universal.
A note on how I travel. I like to use the Lonely Planet guidebooks--but there information is notoriously unreliable or at least it is for central america. where it seems like restaurants change on a yearly basis and hostels up their prices the moment the lonely planet writer visits them. The other thing is that I'm not one of those travelers who is trying to hide the fact that I'm a tourist. In my experience if you do that in a country where you obviously stand out you just spend way too much energy pretending to act like you know what you are doing when you don't. In my trips, there is a lot of getting lost and a lot of asking around. In the same vein, as a tourist, I do want to see as much as a I can, both stuff on and off that beaten path. So you can expect a lot of that too.
With all that in mind I hope you enjoy this blog! I think I'm really going to love writing it!
